AYUTTHAYA, Thailand – Authorities have apprehended the suspect involved in the theft of 160 baht of gold from a well-known gold shop inside a shopping mall in Bang Pa-in, March 27. After reviewing CCTV footage for two days, police identified the suspect’s pickup truck, which was parked near the mall for surveillance before the crime.

The robbery occurred on the evening of March 23, when an armed male suspect stormed a gold shop inside the shopping mall along the Asian Highway and stole gold necklaces totaling 160 baht in weight, worth approximately 7.8 million baht.

On March 26, investigative officers from Region 1 and Ayutthaya Provincial Police meticulously analyzed CCTV footage and traced a suspicious pickup truck parked near the mall a day before the incident. On the day of the robbery, the suspect parked the vehicle in the same location and walked to the mall. He then entered the gold shop, brandished a firearm, and fled on foot. The suspect later hired a motorcycle taxi to drop him off near the parking area where his vehicle was located.

Police tracked the pickup truck and gathered sufficient evidence to identify the suspect as 43-year-old Worapot. He was later arrested in Pathum Thani province, along with the stolen gold jewelry and the clothing worn during the crime.

During the initial interrogation, Worapot revealed he had personal and family debts amounting to approximately 500,000 baht. Authorities are currently holding him for further questioning, with a formal press briefing. (TNA)
