Sunday, August 13, Silky Oak – Medal
Today we played our monthly medal for what I think was our first time here at Silky Oak and despite having lost two shots off his handicap over the past few weeks, Russell Gilroy (H/cap 17) kept up his incredible run of good golf to come out the winner again with a net 68. Russell has won eight games out of his last eleven games and on the other three games he was also in the prizes.
Terry Mangan (22) gave playing partner Russell a good run for his money but a bogey on the last hole cost him and he finished one shot behind with a net 69. Ged Foy (19) played to his handicap to come third with a net 72 and Shaun Tracy (11) was a shot behind Ged to take the fourth and last place on the podium.
Joe McArdle had the only ‘2’ of the day.
Tuesday, August 15, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
Today it took one of our friends from the PFGS group to keep Russell Gilroy off the top spot again. Craig Hitchens (15) had 39 points and pipped Russell who had to settle for second with 37. Don Everett (22) also played very well and had an even handicap 36 points to come third. Bernie Stafford (16) and Darryl Burkett both had 35 points but Bernie edged fourth spot on the count back.
Ken Hole had the only ‘2’ of the day.
Thursday, August 17, Burapha – Stableford
Nine wins out of his last twelve games saw Russell Gilroy once again come out the winner here at Burapha with 39 points. This is coming from a man who a few months ago was barely able to walk and couldn’t play golf with a bad back.
We had two flights here today, one off the white tees which Russell won, and one off the blue tees. Off the blues Jon Batty (6) was the winner with an excellent 38 points and a gross 76. Jon also had a ‘2’ on one of the par-3s where the tees were placed on the black tee boxes. Stuart Brown took the second place with 31 points, seven shots behind Jon.
Off the white tees Don Everett was five shots behind Russell with 34 points to claim second place. We then had two players on 32 points and here Mark Armstrong (25) won the count back over Bernie Stafford (16).
Russell Gilroy had to share the ‘2’s with himself as he had two of them.
