Pattaya Freemasons build schools and shelters in the South

Prove they can build in steel as well as stone!

Swiftly and silently members of Lodge Pattaya West Winds have been assisting the south to recover by building CKD schools for the Tsunami affected children. With the assistance of the Grand Lodge of Western Australia, the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya and private donors, these shelters which are designed and built in Maptaput, Freemasons and Buddhist monks have erected the much needed school in Phuket.

City urges caution about land instability

Possible sinkholes as a result of seismic activity

The public relations office at Pattaya City Hall has issued a cautionary warning to residents concerning the possibility of sinkholes occurring in the region due to the after effects of the seismic activity off the shore of Indonesia and the subsequent tsunami.

The warning was issued for 49 provinces after a number of sinkholes and incidences where the ground had moved building structures were reported at 19 locations in Thailand.

Local Expats Club gathers for tsunami relief buffet at Cafe New Orleans

Members from the Pattaya Expats Club in cooperation with Cafe New Orleans Restaurant took part in a charity buffet dinner on January 16. Customers paid 1,000 baht per head to dine at the restaurant with proceeds aiding tsunami victims in the south of Thailand.

Jameson’s Irish Pub throws open the doors - officially!

With no pomp, and even less circumstance, Jameson’s the new Irish pub, had its head (and feet) truly wetted last Friday night. With the ribbon cutting done very quickly by co-hosts Rony Fineman and landlord Kim Fletcher, it was into the pub for some serious drinking. And the serious drinkers were there by the score, far too many for me to mention individually.

Sweet victory for team Cream Sugar Shack in Charity Classic 2005

Team Cream Sugar Shack proved all the experts wrong last Friday to win this year’s Pattaya Sports Club Charity Classic with a team score of 110 points. Albert Bruce, David Foulkes, Derek Bannerman and Dene Airey stirred the pot as they drove long and straight, and putted sweetly to take top honours on the day.
