NAKHON PHANOM, 7 June 2015 – The Office of Agricultural Extension and Development, Region 4 in Khon Kaen Province took more than 50 officials on a tour of the Thai-Vietnamese Friendship Village in Ban Na Jok, Mueang District, Nakhon Phanom last week.

The study trip was aimed at teaching Vietnamese culture to the Thai Agricultural Extension officials from five provinces namely Khon Kaen, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan and Bueng Kan which are located on the Mekong River.

The program was part of the government effort to prepare Thai staff for the ASEAN Community Integration at the end of this year. The program also includes learning of the Vietnamese language with the help of lecturers from Nakhon Phanom University.

As these officials are working in border provinces, additional knowledge on neighboring languages is considered highly useful for interpersonal contacts with ASEAN counterparts as well as for keeping themselves updated on agricultural developments in the region.
