MYAWADDY, 4 July 2012  - Tak Governor Suriya Prasatbuntitya today met with his Myanmar counterpart, U Mein Tin, in the border town of Myawaddy for talks on bilateral trade and relations.

During a courtesy visit today, Mr Suriya and his delegates were welcomed by the Myawaddy Governor and representatives of local government agencies and businesses. Both parties held a meeting to discuss increased cooperation on border trade and investment.

The talks were aimed at developing a Sister City agreement between Mae Sot district of Tak province and the Myawaddy Special Economic Zone, with a plan to designate the border areas as trading cities in accordance with the future formation of the East-West Economic Corridor, linking Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

The move is expected to pave the way for closer cooperation between the two countries in anticipation of increased trade and tourism within member countries of the ASEAN Economic Community.
