BANGKOK, 6 April 2012  – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) plans to offer more train service to travelers during the upcoming Songkran holidays.

SRT Governor Yutthana Thapcharoen said on Thursday that, as the annual Thai New Year holidays are drawing near, the SRT is preparing to add as many as 250 trains per day to serve the increasing demand from holiday-makers and travelers, who wish to return to their hometown.

In addition to these, Mr. Yutthana said that the SRT will provide 7 more daily trains during April 11th-13th for the outbound routes, which are expected to accommodate 14,000 more travelers. Moreover, during April 16th-18th, 12 more daily trains will be added to the inbound routes in order to serve holiday-makers returning to Bangkok after the festival.

The SRT Governor said that no less than118,600 passengers are expected to be on board trains each day, throughout the entire holiday period.

He is confident that, with additional services, no one will be left stranded on either end of their journey.

Mr. Yutthana went on to say that the State Railway will also join the whole nation in celebrating the Songkran festival by organizing a series of activities at the Hua Lamphong Central Train Station in Bangkok, including the Buddha image bathing ritual, the live folk music performance, the Miss Songkran Beauty contest, and many more.
