Nakhon Pathom celebrates 24th anniversary of Thailand’s first Wax Museum

NAKHON PATHOM, 24 June 2013 Thailand yesterday celebrated the 24th anniversary of its first wax museum in Nakhon Chaisi District, Nakhon Pathom Province with a religious ceremony.

Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt presided over the ceremony, attended by the provincial governor, local high ranking government officials, provincial Red Cross members and many honorable guests.

The Thai Human Imagery Museum’s Director Dr. Suthira Sribenjachote stated that the museum is an art institutions inspired by Thailand’s master wax sculptor, Duangkaew Pitayakonsilp. He said the master, in his 10 years’ experience of the craft, has discovered the use of fiberglass to preserve the wax form in his art works.

Dr. Suthira said the exhibits in the museum include famous figures such as local revered Buddhist monks, King Rama I – VIII of the Chakri Dynasty, the Princess Mother, Princess Galyani Vadhana, and fictional characters in the national folklore like Phra Abhai Mani. There are also sets of exhibits featuring Thai games in the old days, Thai music composers and world important figures.

According to the director, the Thai Human Imagery Museum has played an active role in promoting Thailand’s artistic works through a number of activities. It has also allowed educational and cultural institutions and tourism-related units to use its venue to promote their activities.
