BANGKOK, 7 May 2015, The Ministry of Transport is poised to make Thailand a maritime logistics hub in a decade, developing a railway line connecting Laem Chabang Port to the capital.

According to Transport Minister ACM Prajin Janthong, the maritime logistics hub plan would need a budget of 2.5 billion baht and would be completed within two years. He said the Laem Chabang plan must be finished before the ministry greenlights the Chiang Saen, Chiang Kong and Ranong pier projects.

Meanwhile, the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) will accelerate the third phase of construction at Laem Chabang Port, which would increase its capacity by 8-10 million cargo containers. Currently, the port can handle about 11 million containers. This construction project has a budget of 35 billion baht.

The PAT also indicated that it has another 50 billion baht project to overhaul port management. The scheme will be proposed to state enterprise policy board next month for approval.
