Pattaya officials drafted beach vendors for their effort to enforce the country’s new smoking ban and keep Jomtien clean.

City security chief Teerasak Jatupong and top lawyer Sretapol Boonsawat led the April 2 rally for beach chair renters and massage workers in the “free zone” away from Dongtan Beach.

Pattaya began its public-relations effort to educate and enforce the beach smoking ban in Dongtan and has progressively moved to implement it in Pattaya and the Jomtien free zone.

Vendors were told to help authorities enforce the law and point smokers to designated areas where it’s permitted.

They also were told the help keep the beach clean by sifting through sand to remove cigarette butts and pick up all food scraps to prevent the rat population from growing.
