Gemenids light up sky above Doi Inthanon

BANGKOK, 14 December 2014 – Both local people and tourists in Chiang Mai province have flocked to Doi Inthanon mountain to watch the Geminid meteor shower amid the cold weather.

The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) on Sunday brought more than ten telescopes for those who came to enjoy the meteor shower at Doi Inthanon. It began around 8 PM Sunday night with a peak rate of less than 120 meteors per hour. The meteor shower was visible to the naked eyes.

Wrapped in winter clothes,the people cheered when they saw a meteor. They said they were very delighted to see the phenomenon despite the chilly temperatures.
