The situation along the Thai-Cambodian border surrounding the Temple of Phra Viharn remains peaceful. The two countries’ military forces have agreed to strive to maintain peace along the border after the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) ruling yesterday.

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, in a nationally-televised address at 19.00 hrs. yesterday, said Thailand will work out solutions under existing mechanisms to settle the disputed area around the Temple of Phra Viharn with Cambodia.

Thailand’s Khao Phra Viharn National Park has closed its Mor E-Dang cliff, a tourist vantage point overlooking Cambodia’s the temple of Phra Viharn, on 4 November, 2013 as a precautionary step to ensure peace and order along the border ahead of the ICJ’s ruling. The park remains closed until further notice.

On Thailand’s territory, Khao Phra Viharn National Park is situated in Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province, in the southern portion of the country’s Northeastern region. It is 110 kilometres from Muang Si Sa Ket district, which is 542.4 kilometers northeast of Bangkok.

The Temple of Phra Viharn, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is located in Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province. The temple is occasionally closed as a result of Thai-Cambodian border conflicts. Under a normal situation, Cambodia allows day-trip access from Thailand to the temple on a visa-free basis. Thailand imposes an access fee of 400 baht for entering the National Park.
