AoT admits to flight delays due to runway maintenance at Suvarnabhumi

BANGKOK, 20 June 2012  – The Airports of Thailand (AoT) has indicated that the closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport’s eastern runway has been causing approximately 30 flight delays each day. Nevertheless, the delays have yet to produce major impacts among passengers. 

Suvarnabhumi Airport Director Somchai Sawasdipol has reported a daily record of 30 flight delays, or an average of one flight per hour, following the closure of the national airport’s eastern runway for surface maintenance purposes since June 11th. Despite the delays, Mr. Somchai has assured that passengers of the airport have not been facing any major inconveniences, given airline operators have been informed of the closure in advance.

Additionally, Mr. Somchai said that the new security checkpoints in the international flight terminal, launched on June 15th, is progressing well with no complications reported to date.
