UK keen to invest in EEC: Commerce minister

BANGKOK, 5 April 2018  – Commerce Minister Sonthirat Sonthijirawong confirmed that the United Kingdom was interested in expanding trade and investment with Thailand, especially regarding investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) projecct.

Following a meeting with a visiting British International Trade Secretary Liam Fox, the commerce minister said that the UK aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties with Thailand and promoting trade and investment flows between the two countries.

Thailand is the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia and bilateral trade with the UK increased by 2.8 percent to 246 billion baht in 2015-2016. Machinery, vehicles and mechanical appliances account for Britain’s exports to Thailand.

He also invited the UK to invest in Thailand’s S-Curve target industries under the EEC project.
