Transport Ministry unveils New Year traffic plan

BANGKOK, 20 Dec 2013,  The Transport Ministry has announced its various measures to accommodate the increasing number of passengers and motorists during the New Year’s holidays. 

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Somchai Siriwattanachoke, made the comment, saying the measures his ministry has planned included providing various facilities in bus terminals, train stations, piers and airports. The ministry has also increased the number of flights, boats, buses and trains during December 27th to January 29, he said.

Mr. Somchai further stated the Transport Company Limited has scheduled over 21,000 trips for both outbound and inbound bus services, which should be able to accommodate around 527,000 holiday makers going from and coming back to the capital. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority has also increased the number of buses serving the 4 regional bus terminals.

Meanwhile, to accommodate the increasing number of passengers, the States Railway Authority of Thailand (SRT) has attached 1-2 extra coaches to each of its trains, which will enable it to to handle another 10,000 passengers daily. Aside from that the agency has also added to its schedule 12 more North- and Northeast-bound trips on December 27th to 29th as well as 15 more return trips from the regions on January 1st to 3rd.
