Bangkok – Thailand’s first smart bus stop made its debut on Monday as the government took another step toward turning Thailand into a digital society.

The country’s first smart bus stop is located in front of PTT Head Office on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. The newly-renovated bus station has an open space of 20 meters and is well equipped with a new system that informs commuters of bus schedules and routes.

The construction was launched as part of a joint effort between the Department of Highways and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA).

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said the smart bus stop has a monitor that tells passengers the arrival times of their rides, adding that the ministry will build four more smart stations on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road this year. The construction will be supervised by the Department of Highways.
