Thailand’s political situation not affecting votes for UNSC seat

Foreign Affairs Minister Don Paramudwinai said Thailand has applied to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2017-2018.

For that reason, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will launch a campaign for Thailand to become a non-permanent UNSC member state. Voting for the UNSC seat will be conducted at the UN General Assembly in 2016.

The foreign minister confirmed that Thailand’s political situation will not affect votes since all countries can now see that it has improved and Thailand is currently ready to contest against rival Kazakhstan which is very popular for the seat at the moment.
