Thailand plays host to 6th AMCDRR, pushing for reduction of risks from natural disasters

BANGKOK, 24 June 2014 – Thailand has welcomed high-profile governmental and ministerial-level delegations as well as representatives from intergovernmental and international organizations from 63 countries in the Asia-Pacific region to the Sixth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (6th AMCDRR).

The conference, held at the Bangkok Convention Center at Central World in Bangkok, is being organized jointly by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, under the Ministry of Interior of Thailand, and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The conference, which focuses on the theme “Promoting Investments for Resilient Nations and Communities,” has drawn 2,500 high-profile governmental and ministerial-level delegations, as well as representatives from intergovernmental and international organizations to discuss the Framework for Action to Manage Disaster Risk for Asia and the world at large.

This conference is expected to foster stronger commitment on disaster risk reduction among countries in Asia-Pacific, making it a resilient region with the most efficient disaster risk management and master sustainable programs in place.
