SUPHANBURI – ML Puntarik Smiti, Director-General of the Department of Skill Labour, emphasized that workers and students should have been given an opportunity to undergo a national skill standard test as criterion for their work.

His suggestion was made as he visited the National Skill Standard Testing Center in Suphanburi Province.

He noted that promoting workers to have the test would be beneficial in various ways. It could enhance workforce development process and lead to introduction of new innovations in workplace. As a result, workers could earn more from their advanced skills while enterprises also gain more from higher productivity.

ML Puntarik stressed that Thai workers would have more chances to work abroad after ASEAN has entered into the ASEAN Economic Community. They however need to improve workers’ skill in preparation for the integrated market. Workers would have more chances to work abroad but need to improve their skills to be on par with workers from other ASEAN countries.

The Department of Skill Development has attempted to organize skill training courses for those already employed or university students. This is aimed at increasing their expertise to meet international standard and help them be accepted in global market.
