Tawilwadee: CDC has yet to hold public hearing on the new charter

BANGKOK, 13 Mar 2015,  One of the Constitution Drafting Committee members, Tawilwadee Bureekul, has stated that the committee has yet to decide if it would hold a public hearing on the new charter in the near future.

She said that her agency is upholding the rights of the people in voicing their opinions on the charter. Ms. Tawilwadee underlined that the existing draft can still be amended further.

According to her, this charter highlights the rights to vet the administration and legislation by means of impeachment. It also provides mechanism for public scrutiny, closes social gaps, and creates fairness and unity.

The new charter has 4 parts, with a total of 315 acts. At the moment the new constitution is being reviewed for possible amendment, refinement and overall clarification.

She also indicated that the drafting committee has yet to decide whether it would hold a public hearing in the near future, adding however that the forum gauging the public approval on the new charter would be organized.
