BANGKOK, Nov 1 – School administrators in three provinces of Thailand’s violence-plagued deep South have been urged to strictly follow measures introduced to boost their personal safety as a new school semester begins today.

Confederation of Teachers in the Three Southern Border Provinces chairman Boonsom Thongsriprai said the first day of the new semester went smoothly amid tight security, with zero violent incidents occurring.

School administrators however have been urged to strictly follow security measures imposed earlier at a meeting of confederation members, representatives from Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 and other concerned agencies.

Safety measures implemented in the Deep South have been imposed in accordance with updated security situations. All measures went under careful analysis to prevent repetition of losses and incidents.

More than 150 teachers have been killed in nearly a decade of violence in the region.
