CHONBURI, 3 June 2014  – Officials have discovered several explosives abandoned in Chonburi, Chaiyabhumi, Buriram, and Bangkok.

The Royal Thai Air Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit recovered a 227-kg GP500 bomb, an explosive used in the WWII, after construction workers of Red Line electric train discovered the bomb buried in the construction site nearby the Bang Sue Station. Two GP 500 explosives were earlier found at the same site.

Meanwhile in Chonburi Province, officials found 6 crates of a total of 180 M67 grenades, and also 27 RPG rockets abandoned in a wood in Ban Suan Sub-district, Muang District. The bombs have now been sent to a weapon warehouse at the Nawamintarachinee military camp for a trace of origin.

Officials suspected the explosives’ owners were avoiding martial law punishment for possessing the firearms and decided to abandon the arsenal.

In Chaiyaphum, authorities inspected a safe left abandoned in the province’s Si Samran Sub-district, and found a handgun with some ammunition, ATM cards, and citizen ID cards.

In Buriram an MK2 grenade was found in front of an entertainment venue in the business center of the central district.
