BANGKOK, 26 March 2012 – The Democrat Party has held a seminar to raise women’s voice, encouraging gender equality in the Thai society.

Democrat Party Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said he understands that the roles of women must be improved to be as equal to men’s. He added when the Democrat was in the power, it was pushing for more active roles among women.

Mr Abhisit said the recent cabinet’s resolution, allowing male civil servants to take maternity leave to take care of their wives and new born babies, was the policy taken from the last government.

Several women-related organizations and academics have shared their opinions to find a solution to improve the well-being and rights of Thai women. The findings will be forwarded to the government for implementation.
