SONGKHLA, Oct 11 – Security measures have been tightened in Thailand’s restive southern region ahead of the anniversary of establishment of an insurgent militant Pattani United Liberation Organisation (PULO).

Four border districts of Songkhla – Chana, Thepa, Na Thawi, and Sabayoi – were under strict security measures to prevent any untoward incident as tomorrow marks the anniversary of PULO’s establishment.

Security agencies earlier warned concerned officials in the violence-plagued southern border provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla to closely monitor the situation, as well as set up more mobile checkpoints in all routes heading to the Thai border.

In a related development, police investigators are hunting for presumed insurgents who involved with the bombings of ATM machines in Songkhla. One suspect includes a key RKK leader, identified as Abdul Tolehkaso, who has an outstanding arrest warrant for his role in recent bombing at a teashop in  Na Thawi district.
