BANGKOK, Oct 9 – The Thai Cabinet today imposed the Internal Security Act (ISA) in three government-critical districts of Bangkok to maintain law and order during the rally of an anti-government movement.

The Cabinet resolution came as the People’s Army against the Thaksin Regime moved from their months-long rally site in Lumpini Park to Chamai Maruchet Bridge near Government House on Monday. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is scheduled to visit Thailand officially on Friday.

As of the third day of the demonstration near Government House, 16 companies of police have been deployed in the area.

National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanatabut said the three districts which are under ISA enforcement from today through October 18 were Dusit, Phra Nakhorn and Pom Prab Sattru Phai.

He said National Police Chief Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew is assigned to oversee the situation and the national police bureau will house the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO).

The NSC chief said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, now attending the 23rd ASEAN Summit in Brunei, has been informed of the Cabinet decision.

He said the ISA could be revoked prior to Oct 18 if situation returns to normal.
