BANGKOK, 3 December 2013 Ramkhamhaeng University has announced that the university will remain closed until the situation in the capital returns to normal.

University executives made known that its Hua Mark and Bang Na campuses would stay closed indefinitely. Its branches in other provinces however will re-open on December 4.

The announcement came after their students clashed with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) supporters during the weekend. Four people have reportedly been killed during the clash. It was estimated that about 3,000 people were involved in the free-for-all.

Ramkhamhaeng University rector Wuttisak Lapcharoensap said over the weekend that about 2,000 students were trapped inside the campus while gunshots were exchanged. 200 soldiers were sent to the university to protect the students, while the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration provided transport to retrieve the students.
