BANGKOK, 17 July 2015 – The Royal Rainmaking unit in the North is urgently conducting cloud-seeding operations to replenish water in Bhumibol and Sirikit dams.

The unit said operations are being conducted as a monsoon trough is prevailing through the North, increasing the chance of heavy rains in drought-hit areas. Water levels in major dams including Bhumibol and Sirikit are dipping low and relevant units are devising ways to tackle the issue.

The unit added that around 2-3 million cubic meters of water flow into Sirikit dam daily. Concerns have been expressed over the increasingly low amount of water flowing into Bhumibol Dam. Over 800 rainmaking operations have been launched to generate rains in the region.
