BANGKOK, 12 July 2015 – The Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation will continue its rain enhancement operations despite the coming rainfalls, to ensure sufficient water supplies.

According to Director-General Warawut Khantiyanan, the cloud seeding needs to proceed since recent precipitation has yet to solve the drought crisis in some areas. However, the Irrigation Department chief believes that the drought problems should ease off in the next two weeks thanks to the arrival of cloudburst.

The Irrigation Department will take this period to step up its rain-making operations as the climate condition is now more conducive to the cloud seeding. However, the department chief commented that the rain enhancement was not the only way to solve the crisis, adding that cooperative efforts from different agencies and the public were also vital to deal with the problems.

Mr. Warawut confirmed that the rain-making operations will continue until the end of the rainy season. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast lower rainfalls in the North and the Northeast as the monsoon trough that reached the two regions has weakened. Scattered showers will linger in the South and the Gulf of Thailand, and the East.
