Public urged to donate blood for New Year’s holiday emergencies

BANGKOK, Dec 25 – The Thai Red Cross Society is preparing blood supplies for the upcoming New Year holidays, while inviting the public to donate blood under a campaign during the festive season.

The campaign started December 23 ans will continue through January 5. Donations will not be accepted on New Year’s Day as the programme office will be closed.

Dr Soisaang Pikulsod, Director of the Thai Red Cross Society, said the campaign is specially organised for the upcoming New Year is a long holiday and road accidents with deaths and injuries must be anticipated.

Blood will be supplied at 1,500-2,000 units/day and the amount of blood in stock must be at least 3,000 units/ day.

The Thai Red Cross Society will be closed on New Year’s Eve, December 31 and January 1, New Year’s Day. Blood donations may be made at the centre and its mobile units. Those interested can donate their blood in Bangkok through Friday December 27 from 8am-7.30pm and Saturday through Monday from 8.30am to 3.30pm.

Upcountry the public can donate blood at regional blood centres in Chon Buri, Ratchaburi, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakon Sawan, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Phuket, and Prachup Khiri Khan.
