Police to issue arrest warrants for violent protesters at Uruphong

BANGKOK, 28 October 2013 The Metropolitan Police Bureau is set to issue arrest warrants for eight core protesters at the Uruphong intersection in connection with instigation of violence. 

Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt-Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang said a group of about 100 former technical students split away from the main protesters and sealed off parts of the Uruphong intersection. At the moment, a total of 800 demonstrators continued to occupy the area.

According to the bureau, police are after eight individuals who were reportedly rallying demonstrators to march to the Government House, put up blockade near major roads in the area and denied entry to police cars. The charges will include the illegal gathering of more than 10 people and disturbing peace and order.

Police will also launch an investigation into an incident where the window of a press vehicle was smashed by some protesters.
