Bangkok – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has called for a thorough review of the draft cybersecurity act which was recently vetted by the Council of State.

Government Spokesperson Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister hasn’t yet seen the latest draft, but has asked related agencies to make sure the bill complies with ethical codes, impartiality, the rule of law, and today’s circumstances. Most importantly, he said the law must provide checks and balances because the power under this law should never be concentrated in the hands of individuals and organizations.

Lt Gen Sansern said the draft cybersecurity act will have to pass three sittings of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), meaning it can still be amended to fit the context of Thailand.

He added that governmental agencies have been instructed to study laws and regulations of other nations and always heed public suggestions and concerns when drafting a law.
