BANGKOK, 19 February 2012  – Prime Minsiter Yingluck Shinawatra urged all relevant sectors to take part in the development of women’s role in the society as well as eliminating the problem of gender gap in Thailand.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, on February 18, presided over the launch of the Women’s Development Fund, which is aimed at improving women’s quality of life, especially in the community level. The fund is a capital source from which women could borrow money with low interest, or without any interest at all, in order to develop their occupation and generate income for their family. The programme also targets to enhance the network of women across the country.

On this occasion, the PM asked all relevant sectors to lend a hand in developing women’s role while also working to eradicate the gender gap between males and females in a democratic society such as Thailand’s.

The PM insisted that the government will promote the development of women’s role in every dimension, including economically, socially and politically, for the benefit and sustainability of the country.
