PM announces Thailand Reform Council to be set up by the new government

BANGKOK, 22 December 2013, Prime Minister and Defense Minister made an announcement on TV pool that the government has to organize an election in accordance with the Constitution under democratic system. However, the new government will only serve a 2-year term. 

Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Yingluck Shinawattra, stated at that the government is obliged by the Constitution to hold a general election on February 2, 2014 in order to maintain democratic system in the country.

She further disclosed that the country reform can be done in parallel with the preparation for the upcoming election. However, the government would like to request that all parties agree on signing a social contract to organize Thailand Reform Council that would provide guideline and propose measures for reforming political system in the country.

The new government is to be in office for only 2 years.
