Phang Nga quake causes no damage

PHANG NGA, 6 May 2015 – Phang Nga Provincial Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has allayed public fears of heavy damage after a 4.6-magnitude earthquake early this morning shook Ko Yao in Phang Nga province.

Phang Nga DDPM reported that so far, there had been no confirmed reports of damages to property or lives as a result of the tremor. However, authorities have remained vigilant and continued to monitor tsunami warning systems.

The quake shook the island of Ko Yao at 04:18 hrs today, with an epicenter depth of four kilometers. The island is located 18 kilometers southeast of Phuket’s Muang District. The quake was reportedly felt in many areas of Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi.

Phang Nga is one the provinces that lies on the Khlong Marui Fault, one of the active fault lines in southern Thailand. The fault line also runs through Surat Thani, Krabi and Phuket.
