NONG KHAI, 16 August 2015 – The Minister of Industry has observed the development of the Special Economic Zone in Nong Khai and expects the province’s border trade to grow by 100 billion baht each year.

During his visit to the Special Economic Zone in Nong Khai, the Minister of Industry Chakramon Phasukavanich complemented the SEZ in Nong Khai as the SEZ that has progressed the most, due to the fact that it was operated under a co-investment framework between the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand and the private sector.

He said that Nong Khai province lies in a strategic location that facilitates the establishment of the SEZ in many aspects, including tourism industry, agriculture industry, ports and logistics. He said all the developments will benefit from the Mekong River and assured that heavy industries will not be settling in the province.

The Minister of Industry pointed out that Nong Khai province’s trade value of no less that 60 million baht each year, will continue to drive the development potential, with or without the SEZ.

With the establishment of the SEZ, the province’s trade with China, Malaysia and Singapore is also expected to be extended in the next decade, as assured through mutual economic development.
