BANGKOK, 23 May 2014  – The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) held a meeting with Internet service providers (ISPs) to ensure that the dissemination of information online abides by guidelines mandated by the National Peace and Order Maintaining Council (NPOMC).

The NPOMC has made a 17th announcement on Thursday night, saying that ISPs are required to monitor information posted online and block posts that may undermine the stability and security of the country.

As part of the order, the service providers have been summoned to the NBTC building at 10:30AM on Friday. 76 out of 108 service providers attended the meeting led by NBTC executives and Army personnel.

ISPs admitted that due to sheer amount of information posted on social media, the scrutiny of data can be difficult to manage. Nonetheless, they will relay information deemed inappropriate to the ICT Ministry to take further action.
