BANGKOK, 2 August 2011 – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has approved a budget worth 6.9 million THB for the establishment of tourist assistance centers, which will operate in six different languages.

In an effort to provide more convenience for foreign visitors, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Thanitta Savetsila Maneechote stated that the Ministry had been working on a project to set up tourist assistance centers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport as well as the Ministry’s headquarters on Ratchadamnoen Avenue and the Department of Tourism in Pathum Wan district.

A budget of 6.9 million THB for opening the centers has reportedly received a green light from Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Sombat Kuruphan, who is also the head of the committee overseeing the tourism promotion fund.

According to Ms Thanitta, the services at Suvarnabhumi International Airport are scheduled to officially commence on 19 August at a booth similar to those of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA). Assistance will be available to tourists in six languages, comprising English, Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, French and Spanish.
