SATUN – Delinquent monkeys in Satun’s municipality have been transported and released on an island.

Satun Deputy Governor Somjade Jongsuphawisalakij and a team of officials traveled to Khoy Island to release the monkeys. Mr. Somjade said the animals had to be relocated, as they began to search for food near homes in the municipality. Various types of fruit trees have also been grown, in the hopes of sustaining the island population.

The Deputy Governor assured they will not be abandoned by the authorities. Fruits will be brought to the island weekly to ensure their well-being.

The island is located 20 kilometers away from Tanyong subdistrict. The island is uninhabited, although fishermen occasionally stop by and take refuge during stormy weather.
