BANGKOK, 19 July 2015,  Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed the Ministry of Interior to survey drought-affected areas across the country and allocate budget from the drought prevention fund to assist the local residents.

The Prime Minister on Friday said the drought situation in the Northeast had improved due to additional rainfall.

However, provinces in the Chao Phraya river basin still lacked water and local government units still need to explain to farmers the measures to mitigate drought.

He said the number of drought-hit provinces had decreased from 40 to 3 provinces currently. General Prayut added budget will be disbursed to compensate the affected people.
