Metropolitan Police on 24-hour alert after Sunday night explosion

BANGKOK, 27 May 2013 The Metropolitan Police Bureau has been on high alert around the clock after an explosion in Bangkok injured seven people on Sunday night. 

Metropolitan Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang said on Monday that bomb squads and local police from all precincts have been ordered to stay alert and keep a close eye on all risky areas across Bangkok, around the clock.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit said that the order was issued following Sunday night explosion at the entrance of Soi Ramkhamhaeng 43/1.

He stated that there are around 10 areas, which are under close surveillance, including those of high security concerns and with high population density, such as Government House, the Parliament, embassies, residences of all ambassadors, the prime minister and the President of the Privy Council, Ratchaprasong intersection and major shopping malls.

The Metropolitan Police Chief said extra cautions are needed to prevent undesirable incidents from ill-intended people.
