KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 –  The Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade), in collaboration with Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corp (MPRC), will organize the participation of 14 Malaysian companies in a specialized mission for oil and gas (O&G) sector to Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon, Myanmar.

“The three-day event, which begins today, is to facilitate Malaysian companies’ registration process with the Ministry of Energy, Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise and Energy Planning Department,” it said in a statement Wednesday.

Chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Wong Lai Sum, said the mission’s programme included meetings with Myanmar O&G authorities and key companies in Myanmar.

“The event will also include sessions for individuals to present their companies’ capabilities directly to the Myanmar O&G authorities in Nay Pyi Taw,” Wong said.

Wong said the mission would end in Yangon where the participants would be meeting Petronas Myanmar and contract owners such as Parami Energy Group of Companies, Daewoo E&P, Shwe Taung Group of Companies and Total E&P.

In 2013, Myanmar was Malaysia’s 40th largest global trading partner and the sixth largest trading partner among Asean member economies accounting for 0.2 per cent of Malaysia’s total trade.

In the same year, Malaysia’s total trade with Myanmar increased by 5.2 per cent to RM2.9 billion, with exports amounting to RM2.2 billion.
