BANGKOK, June 9 — The Mandarin Tour Guide Club of Thailand on Monday submitted a letter to National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) head General Prayuth Chan O-cha to help solve the problem of illegal tour guides in the country.

Club deputy chairman Seangthong Pailinvijit led more than 300 Mandarin tour guides to present the group’s complaint to the NCPO head/ Army chief earlier today.

The complaint was received by the head of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Support Unit Lt Col Permkiat Jutathet.

Mr Saengthong said most illegal tour guides were supported by governmental officials or politicians who allowed them to impersonate a licensed Thai guide, paving the way for them to be able to work with foreign visitors.

He said that unlicensed guides contribute to transnational crime, ruin tourism standards, and allowed illegal tour guides to steal clients from legal Thai guides.
