Locals and tourists in Phayao perform alms-giving ceremony

BANGKOK, 14 February 2014  As February 14 marks the auspicious occasion of Magha Puja, locals and tourists in Phayao Province have come out to perform a mass alms-offering ceremony. 

Mr. Chuchart Keelapang, Governor of Phayao Province, led an alms giving and merit-making ceremonies in front of the King Ngam Muang Statue, with over 2,000 locals and tourists joining the event. This special event was held to kick start Magha Puja, an important Buddhist festival celebrated on the full moon day.

In the evening, a circumambulation, an act of moving around a sacred object, will be held at Tilok Aram Temple. This year’s event will be in the form of barge procession, in which people joining the special occasion will be circling around the temple on boats.
