BANGKOK, 04 September 2015 (NNT) – Thailand has hosted its first Ministerial Conference on Labour Cooperation in CLMTV, where the Prime Minister called for greater regulation of migrant labour.

The conference was held at the Dusit Thani Hotel from September 2-4, under the theme “Enhancing Labour Cooperation on Migration for Employment in CLMTV.”

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said Thailand has the largest influx of migrant labour, which he believes can become a human-trafficking liability in the future. He called on cooperation from neighboring countries to ensure legal migrant labour and standard employment practices.

The premier also pushed for agreements on agricultural prices, which he argued would reduce intraregional competition and strengthen the CLMTV’s leverage as a global food producer.
