Heavy rains forecast in the lower half of Thailand this weekend

BANGKOK, 2 October 2014  The Meteorological Department has revealed that several regions of Thailand will experience heavy rains this weekend. This is due to the arrival of a monsoon trough that is going through the Central Plain and is expected to travel down south.

According to the forecast, people living in the central, eastern and southern parts of the country are warned of heavy rains. The southwestern monsoon is also extending across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The sea conditions will not be ideal at this time.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is prepared to respond to any emergency events. Its local offices in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phuket, Songkhla, Surat Thani and Chanthaburi provinces is ready to dispatch rescue teams in the event of mudslides and flash floods.
