BANGKOK, 2 January 2013 The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has expressed confidence that it can deliver tablet computers to students before the 2013 school term starts.

OBEC Secretary-General Chinaphat Phumirat on Wednesday spoke of the progress of the government’s tablet computer procurement for the 2013 academic year, saying that OBEC would soon draw up the Term of Reference (ToR) so that the tablets’ specifications would be concluded.

Mr Chinaphat added that OBEC was waiting for an e-procurement committee to decide whether it could proceed with the tablet project. The secretary-general said he expected that e-auctions for the computers would be able to start this March, confirming that students would receive the tablets before the 2013 term begins.
