BANGKOK, 23 July 2012  – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its confidence in the Burmese justice system, citing that the 92 Thai nationals alleged of illegal entry will receive a fair trial.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mr. Thani Thongpakdi, all of the 92 Thai detainees will be trialed on July 27 in Myanmar based on three speculations: trespassing, possession of weaponry and illicit substances.

However, help has been coordinated with the committee overseeing border matters to bring them home. Mr. Thani added that the Foreign Ministry had brought this matter to the attention of its Burmese counterpart during the recent ministerial conference in Cambodia.

Moreover, the Spokesperson said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has also discussed the capture of the Thai nationals with Burmese President Thein Sein, who is currently on a visit to Thailand. He also revealed that any further assistance measures will be formulated once the ruling has been issued by the Burmese court.
