Fine arts dept to organize a Thai heritage conservation day exhibition

BANGKOK, 2 April 2012  – On the occasion of Thai Heritage Conservation Day, the Fine Arts Department is organizing an exhibition to show case Her Majesty the Queen’s and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s royal projects in support of the kingdom’s arts and crafts. 

Somsuda Leeyawanich, director-general of the Fine Arts Department said the Thai Heritage Conservation Day which falls on April 2, commemorates the birthday of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. This year, she said, also marks the 80th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who has been the patroness of Thai crafts.

For this auspicious occasion, the department is holding an exhibition to celebrate Thai Heritage Conservation Day under the theme “Elaboration Art”, at Issaravinijjai Throne Hall, in the compound of Bangkok’s National Museum; throughout August. The exhibition presents a collection of HM the Queen’s and HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s royal patronage arts projects, showing their long-standing support and interest in the country’s arts and culture.

Also featured at the exhibition will be artifacts from museums nationwide which included Thai fabric, pearl inlay products, antique furniture decorated with gold leaf motifs, as well as contemporary artworks.

Ms Somsuda also urged arts and culture practitioners as well as general members of the public to take part in protecting the spirit of arts conservation and promoting traditional arts, culture, heritage and literature
