BANGKOK, 1 July 2013 Former Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Surin Pitsuwan encourages all agencies to prepare themselves in terms of education and technology to increase the quality of people before Thailand enters the ASEAN Community.

In an academic seminar on challenges and opportunities in ASEAN, the ex-ASEAN secretary-general said everyone was alert and concerned about their preparations for the upcoming regional integration. He stressed that Thailand needed to be ready for it by having more quality personnel in education, medical and technological fields while public health problems, such as premature pregnancy and poor health of mothers, had to be tackled by responsible units.

Dr. Surin also suggested the country to have clear guidelines on taking care of immigrating laborers in terms of welfare and living conditions as allowed by the law.
