BANGKOK, 7 December 2014  Chairman of the Election Commission (EC) Suphachai Somcharoen has said he has no problem with the reduction of the EC’s term from seven to five years.

Mr Suphachai said the shorter office term had not been finalized yet and he believed a new EC would be able to start working immediately if the current one had to go. He added that the matter depended on the National Reform Council and the constitution drafting committee.

The EC chairman added that the EC had the duty to arrange elections no matter what a new election system would be.
