BANGKOK, 19 July 2015 – Drought disaster conditions have been lifted at 38 provinces, with only two provinces still categorized as drought disaster areas while seven provinces are still considered rainfall-shortage areas, the DDPM Director-General says.

The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Chatchai Promlert has revealed latest information on the current drought disaster situation, saying that the drought situation at up to 38 provinces has deescalated. Nan and Nakhon Ratchasima are the only two remaining provinces suffering from drought disasters.

The country’s seven provinces namely Phrae, Chonburi, Sukhothai, Pathum Thani, Pichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun were lifted from drought disaster areas, but has continued to experience rainfall shortages since 4 June 2015 until now.

The DDPM Director-General has stated that the Ministry of Interior is now working with the provincial, military, and other related agencies to provide water tankers to deliver both water for consumption and cultivation to the affected public, and asked for the public’s cooperation in water conservation practices.

He added that the general public can call the 1784 Security Call Center for 24 hours should they need any assistance.
